The Big Idea
To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Super Bowl, we created a set of 5 limited-edition invites representing the best of the Super Bowl MVPs. Each invite represents one of the five decades the Super Bowl has been played, with each figure being a collage of the ten MVPs from that decade.
Project: Super Bowl 50 Friday Night Party Invite
Problem
Create a unique invitation that celebrates a major milestone in NFL Super Bowl history. The invite for the Super Bowl Friday night party is one of the most prestigious projects of the in-house creative team.
Project Goal
Since this invite is for Roger Goodell’s exclusive party, held days before the Super Bowl, it has two main objectives. First, to create a wow factor, this invite must appeal to owners of million-dollar NFL teams. Second, to communicate the celebratory spirit of the Super Bowl by strategically unveiling some aspect of its history. As the event is high-end, the budget is generous, making it the most expensive printed project per piece. Over the years, the invite has influenced the look and feel of the event decor, ensuring everything is cohesive. Lead time is planned well in advance to share design progress with the vendor producing the event. The Super Bowl 50 Friday Night Party invitation is special because these unique, high-end pieces enable us to utilize exclusive printing methods not typically found on regular invitations. We incorporate laser etching, gold foil, gold gilded edges, and both gloss and matte varnish. Each series consists of five pieces and is sequentially numbered before being delivered to the upper management of each of the 32 NFL teams. The significance of the Roman numerals laser-etched on the front of the invitation sleeve represents each of the Super Bowls played prior to Super Bowl 50.
